Suppose that the length of a certain rectangle is 8 meters less than four times its width. the perimeter of the rectangle is 54 meters. find the length and width of the rectangle.

Length = 4w-8

P =2L + 2W
54 = 2(4w-8) + 2W
54 = 8w -16 +2W
54 = 10w -16
54+16 = 10w -16+16
70=10w
70/10=10w/10
w=7

L= 4(7) - 8
L = 28-8
L =20

Check
P = 2w +2L
54 = 2(7) + 2(20)
54 = 14+ 40
54=54
