ok, so you know 6 pounds of apples is 33 bucks. So let's try and find out how many dollars you pay for 1 pound of apples. 33 dollars divided by the 6 pounds = 5.5, or $5.50 per pound of apples. If you want to buy 10 pounds, then you multiply the rate for one pound by ten. 5.50 dollars multiplied by 10 is $55. thats your answer!

Write an equation involving two ratios.  The first ratio will be (6/10), which involves the weights of two different purchases of apples.  The second ratio will be ($33/x), which involves the selling prices of the purchases of apples.  Then

(6/10) = ($33/x).  Solve this for x, which will be the cost of 10 lb. of apples.

You may find this solution easier if you'd rewrite this equation as (10/6)=(x/$33).
