WHAT IS DIABETES?

  • Diabetes is an unhealthy condition where the body can no longer regulate blood sugar level causing an increase in the glucose level in the blood.

  • A specific hormone called insulin is principally responsible for causing cells to absorb glucose, which is produced from digestion. Insulin also converts excess glucose in the blood to glycogen.

Two types of diabetic condition can arise namely:

  • Type 1 diabetes: In this diabetic condition, the individual loses the ability to produce insulin

  • Type 2 diabetes: In this diabetic condition, the individual can still produce insulin but the response to it is dysfunctional.
