John Hanson was the first president of the continental congress in 1783. even though presidency was not its own position separate from the Congress. Presidency started as its own position in 1789.
In November 1781, John Hanson became the first President of the United States. Many people have argued that John Hanson, and not George Washington, was the first President of the United States, but this is not quite true.
