In order to measure potential difference and current accurately, a voltmeter with a very high resistance and an ammeter with a low resistance should be employed. Voltmeter resistance is higher than ammeter resistance. Voltmeter has a higher resistance and is linked in parallel with the main circuit so that the current in the main circuit is not altered.
