According to the matching hypothesis, people are more likely to start and maintain a committed relationship with someone who is also socially acceptable. This attraction is often physical. In 1966, American social psychologist Elaine Hatfield and her colleagues originally put out the idea, which comes from the study of social psychology.
Differently beautiful people that make up successful marriages may be together because of other compatibility factors that make up for the physical differences. For example, some wealthy and affluent men prefer younger, more attractive women. For males with income and position, some women are more willing to ignore physical appearance.
