The client should be instructed by the nurse to first urinate in a toilet, bedpan, or another appropriate container before providing a sample of feces in a collecting container.
You shouldn't send a feces sample with toilet paper. You shouldn't mix stool samples with urine. Both can taint the sample. To ensure that the sample is ready for testing, have the patient call the nurse as soon as possible after the BM. Fresh feces is preferable.
Your doctor should get stool samples as soon as feasible. If you are unable to submit the stool sample right away, you should keep it in the refrigerator for no more than 24 hours.
