Some historical sites which were built by early European explorers and settlers especially in the Americas include the following;
- The English built Historic Jamestowne in Vir.ginia and Port Arthur in Tasmania, Australia.
- The French build Fortress of Louisbourg and Cahokia Courthouse, Cahokia, Illinois
- The Spanish built El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail and and San Antonio Missions National Historical Park in Texas
European Colonization and Exploration.
The Europeans were the first people to explore the new world and other parts of the globe. The major reason for their exploration was the search for gold, military conquest and religious reasons.
When they arrived in a new place, they tried to subdue the native inhabitants by diplomacy and also through force. This led to the establishment of colonies for easy administration. Europeans administered these colonies through three different way. They include the following
- Royal Rule
- Self-governing
- Proprietary
In the course of administering these colonies, European explorers and settlers brought their home culture and heritage to their new land and build historic sites mimicking their culture.
Historic Jamestowne in Vir.ginia was the first permanent English settlement in 1607. Jamestowne was later the root of what eventually become America.
Port Arthur in Tasmania, Australia was the formal penal house in Australia but today is serves as open-air museum.
The French built the Fortress of Louisburg in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. It experienced tow sieges and this would later lead to the formation of present day Canada.
The French also Cahokia Courthouse, Cahokia, Illinois as a residence when Illinois was a French colony in 1740. When the united states purchased it 1793, it became a center for territorial political and legal activity.
The Spanish built El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail which was instrument in the settlements which were established in Texas.
The San Antonio Missions National Historical Park in Texas was built in 1718 as a mission house. The park includes four other missions was important for its irrigation systems that supported the missions helped in defending and expanding the Spanish frontier into Texas.
