Nicotine is addictive. On average, a cigarette provides 2mg of nicotine which is absorbed in the body. These compounds make smokers experience dependence on cigarettes and other nicotine-containing products.
The characteristics of addiction and nicotine dependence include changes in behavior, excessive use, return to smoking after quitting, physical and psychological dependence, and drug tolerance. Apart from dependence, in the short and long term, nicotine is not classified as dangerous for adults.
