What is Acute Sequestratian Crisis ?
The spleen becomes scarred from frequent sickling, which makes it less effective. A medical emergency has arisen with the spleen. Splenic sequestration is another name for it. This occurs when red blood cells become stuck in the spleen and result in severe anaemia.
- Acute splenic sequestration crises can occur in young children with sickle cell anaemia. These happen when too much blood gets trapped in the spleen, dangerously reducing the amount of blood that is circulated.
