What is the significance of the Pacific War?
The Pacific War, sometimes known as the Asia-Pacific War, was a World War II theater fought in Asia, the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean, and Oceania. It was the war's greatest theater, comprising the huge Pacific Ocean theater, the South West Pacific theater, the Second Sino-Japanese War, and the Soviet-Japanese War. The Pacific War pitted the Allies against Japan, which was assisted by Thailand and, to a lesser extent, the Axis allies, Germany and Italy. Fighting included some of the largest naval confrontations in history, as well as extraordinarily intense fights and war crimes across Asia and the Pacific Islands, resulting in massive human casualties.
