The correct answer is D. In 1890, Mary E. Lease led the Farmers' Alliances to revolt against high mortgage rates.

The Farmers' Alliance was a peasant organization of the United States of America founded in Texas in 1877 that soon spread to other states of the South and Midwest, especially Kansas and the Dakotas. At the end of the 19th century it already encompassed the entire country and by 1900 it had a million and a half members.

When in 1890 Congress rejected its proposal that the Treasury grant credit to farmers at 1 percent interest - and that they be allowed to store their grain in government silos - the Alliance members organized themselves politically to defend their interests and helped to found In 1892 the populist People's Party.
