Pagodas built during the Song Dynasty were heavily influences by Buddhist structures. Or the Buddhist pagodas themselves.
The Song dynasty era began in 960 and lasted until 1279. Although they were famous for various things, one of them is their architecture, they builded pagodas based on the Buddhist influences, particularly the indian buddhist stupas which try to represent their beliefs in buildings. The Song dynasty pagodas were very tall and thin, to make them look taller, they added spirals on the top. They were surrounded by wooden lattices in order to make them look fancy.
