The character relationship that best shows how colonizers took advantage of differences between native populations is (A.) Caliban and Ariel because they hate each other even though they are both slaves.

In The Tempest (1611) by William Shakespeare, Caliban and Ariel look and behave in a very different way. While Caliban is described more as a savage and a bestial creature, Ariel is presented as an ethereal spirit. Althought both of them are Prospero's servants, Caliban hates his master and he even plans to murder him. On the other hand, Ariel is considered more submissive than Caliban and also a loyal servant. Prospero, the colonizer, takes advantage of their differences when he promises to free Ariel in exchange of obedience. Ariel, who has an innocent soul, believes him; however, he is not set free until the end of the play. In contrast, Prospero treats Caliban in a different way due to his disobedience. He abuses Caliban, insults him by calling him 'beast' and 'savage', and also threatens him. However, throughout the play, unlike Ariel, Caliban is not afraid of acting out against his master.
