In The Tempest (1611) by William Shakespeare, Caliban and Ariel look and behave in a very different way. While Caliban is described more as a savage and a bestial creature, Ariel is presented as an ethereal spirit. Althought both of them are Prospero's servants, Caliban hates his master and he even plans to murder him. On the other hand, Ariel is considered more submissive than Caliban and also a loyal servant.
