The above question is from the Epic of Gilgamesh which is popular still because it is one of the initial instances of poetry and it also tells a little about the Mesopotamian civilization.
Gilgamesh demonstrates the characteristics of an epic hero as can be seen below:
• He was considered an epic hero as he defeated a monster and he also faced his obstacles with courage and overcame them.
• He possessed all the qualities of a hero. For example: in the poem there was a monster named Humbaba who did not let anybody enter the forest. Gilgamesh decided to fight him, even after the warnings of the villagers and in the end he defeated the monster. This shows his courage and his selflessness as he thought of the safety of the people first.
• Another example that shows his bravery is when he decided to climb Mount Mashu. The journey was very hard but he showed courage and succeeded in reaching his destination.
All the characteristics of leadership, courage, selflessness and bravery, among others prove that Gilgamesh was an epic hero.
