President Anwar Sadat of Egypt and Prime Minister Menachem Begin of Israel met for 12 days with U.S. President Jimmy Carter at Camp David, the official vacation home of the American president in Maryland. These meetings led to a landmark formal peace treaty (informally called the Camp David Accords) between Israel and Egypt, two countries that had previously been bitter enemies.
