The appropriate answer is d. millions of Americans volunteered for World War 2 to escape poverty. Some believe that government spending on the war ended the great Depression. Others however do not share this view. The fact is though that the war opened up avenues for employment taking many out of poverty.
The federal government grew to try and prevent future depressions. In general, we call these the "New Deal" programs of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
