Why should people study the Civil War? What one thing should all study of the war include? When discussing the American Civil War, historian James Morgan described the war in the following manner: “…our great 19th century bloodletting was, at on and the same time, the last 18th century war and the first 20th century war.” Please support or refute his opinion with facts.

PLEASE ANSWER! You can answer just the first two, or just the last one, but all of them are preferred. I just want to see multiple opinions, before making a final answer with my own ideas. THANK YOU!

If your question is just "why should people study the Civil War?" It is part of history, and shows how the US thought about slavery, and how it shaped our communities, thoughts, etc. Some Northern people wanted to end slavery, others wanted too keep the US from splitting in 2, and the Southerns wanted to keep slavery, and if they couldnt keep it becuz the Northern states didnt allow it, they would just leave. Sorry if it is kinda confuing
