People are afraid that their abusers might seriously harm them if they find out that they've been reported. Also, depending on the kind of abuse it is, there might be social stigma which might make them feel embarrassed or rejected by society if they tell someone that they've been abused.
There are a few reasons as to why abuse may go unreported, here are a few:
~the abuser has manipulated the person in a way where they still have positive feeling towards the abuser
~The person feels too trapped and icsolated to get help
~the person is being trapped physically
~the abuser threatens to harm themselves, like threatening to commit suicide if the person leaves
~the abuser threatens to harm the person again
~Person or the person's family is bribed to keep the abuse hidden, this one is mainly common in societies where not everyone is considered equal
