A solid defensive posture and anchorage were available at Jamestown. Large plantations may thrive thanks to the warm environment and rich soil. Plymouth had a great harbour and comfortable anchorage.
Even while Plymouth's economy would never become as strong as succeeding colonies like Massachusetts Bay Colony, it became self-sufficient within five years of its founding thanks to agriculture, fishing, and trade.
