What is phosphorous ?
With the chemical symbol P and atomic number 15, phosphorus is one of the elements. This feature of phosphorus is where the word "phosphorescence," which refers to a glow after illumination, comes from. However, the word is now also used to describe another physical process that results in a glow. The process of white (but not red) phosphorus being oxidized results in chemiluminescence, which is what gives phosphorus its shine. Phosphorus falls under the category of pnictogens together with nitrogen, arsenic, antimony, and bismuth.
