If a process removes heat from a system, must the system's temperature decrease in this process,  

  • No the system's temperature could stay the same if there is work done on the system to exactly compensate for heat loss.
Since heat removes = work done on the system then change in internal energy will be zero. hence there will be no change in temperature of the system. then Temperature of the system depend on the Internal Energy of the system.
  • internal energy is the total amount of all potential and kinetic energy
  • if a system is heated means that it gains internal energy and if loses heat means decrease in internal energy
