Solubility = 1/28

Now, solubility of caffiene when dissolved in water,

Now, we calculate distribution coefficient, (kd) by taking the ratio of the solublities i.e..

Distribution coefficient,(Kd) = solubility of caffeine, when dissolved in methylene chloride / solubility of caffeine when dissolved in water.

Kd= (1/28) / (1/46)

Kd= 1.61

Thus, distribution coefficient was calculated and found to be 1.61.
