  • A powerful national government would keep the nation united

Why were the Federalists rights?

The Federalists were right because having a strong national government would be able to act as a check on the powers of state governments. This is important when the state government is not treating its people well like Southern states did to their African Americans for centuries.

A powerful national government would also be better able to keep the nation united as we saw in the American Civil War. The Federalists also called for separation of national government power between its various branches. This would ensure that the national government does not become tyrannical which would protect the rights of the American people.
