The stage of the cell cycle where most cells are present is the interphase.
What is the cell cycle?
The cell cycle is a cycle of the different stages cells passes through in their lifetime.
There are two main stages of the cell cycle:
Different sub-stages characterize both the interphase and M phase.
The interphase has G1, S, G2, and G0 substages while the M phase has prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase substages.
Actively dividing cells move from the M phase to the G1, S, and G2 stages. Cells that are not actively dividing move from the M phase to the G0 phase.
In other words, the G0 phase is essentially a resting phase. Most cells are in this phase, except for cells that need to keep dividing.
