The penalties were very harsh for participating in the transatlantic Slave Trade but it was very difficult to terminate the practice due to the following reasons

  • Economic Impact
  • Political Impact.

The economic impact which delayed the termination of the transatlantic slave trade was that slave labor was useful in to textile manufacturers and consumers constituted a seemingly insatiable market.

Also the Political impact which hindered the termination of the transatlantic slave trade was that the major slave owners were big political figures coupled with the government commitment  to a system of free trade (Capitalism).

What was the Transatlantic Slave Trade?

The Transatlantic Slave trade was a period in history where Africans were transported majorly to the Americas as slaves to work on the growing factories and on the Farms.
