A 35.0 mL solution of NaOH is neutralized with 22.7 mL of 0.250 M HCl. What is the concentration of the original NaOH solution?

Respuesta :

The concentration of the base is 0.162 M

What is the concentration of NaOH?

We know that neutralization is a reaction in which  an acid is reacted with a base to yield salt and water only. The first step is to write down the equation of the reaction as follows;

[tex]NaOH + HCl ----- > NaCl +H_{2} O[/tex]

Now using the formula;

CAVA/CBVB = NA/NB

CA = concentration of acid

CB = concentration of base

VA = volume of acid

VB = volume of base

NA = number of moles of acid

NB = number of moles of base

CAVANB = CBVBNA

CB = CAVANB/VBNA

CB = 0.250 M * 22.7 mL * 1/35.0 mL  * 1

CB = 0.162 M
