Question) A convex mirror has a radius of curvature of 28.4 cm. If you hold a 16-cm-long pencil 23.5 cm in front of the mirror, what will the image position and image height be?
I know the answer but I need the steps could anyone please help me asap?

Answer
di = -8.85 cm; hi = 6.0 cm

Respuesta :

The distance of the image formed is -8.85 cm and the height of the image is 6.02 cm.

Image distance

The position of the image formed is calculated as follows;

-1/f = 1/v + 1/u

where;

  • f is the focal length = r/2 = 28.4 cm /2 = 14.2 cm
  • u is object distance = 23.5 cm
  • v is the image distance

1/v = -1/f - 1/u

1/v = -/14.2 - 1/23.5

1/v = -0.112975

v = -1/0.112975

v = -8.85 cm

Height  of image formed

The height of the image formed  is calculated as follows.

Use magnification equation;

image distance/object distance = image height / object height

v/u = hi/h0

8.85/23.5 = hi/16

hi = (8.85/23.5) x 16

hi = 6.02 cm

Thus, the distance of the image formed is -8.85 cm and the height of the image is 6.02 cm.
