According to historians, the major reason why Indian and Iranian Zoroastrians developed differences in their rituals and festivals is that they have been separated in Asia for almost thousand years.

After the Arab invasion, a number of Iranian Zoroastrians left Persia to avoid persecution for their religion by the Muslim majority. Between 785 and 936 A.D., the group is thought to have crossed the Arabian Sea and arrived in Gujarat, a state in western India.

Zoroastrianism is practiced by the Parsi in India. Over the course of time, they imbibed Indian culture and tradition into their religion. Even some of their customs are now similar to Hindu customs.
