The purpose of this party was to represent the people that were referred to as the common folks in the United States and serve their interest. Ther people that represented this party liked to call themselves the voice of the people.
At this time the party had become so popular that it was beginning to gain more grounds than the democratic party. Hence we can see that the snake is swallowing the other animal which happens to be smaller than it is.
