Braided streams are often found in front of lowland forests. Typically, braided streams begin when a central sediment bar starts to form in a channel as a result of decreased streamflow or an increase in sediment load. Water flows into the two smaller cross sections on either side of the central bar.
A higher flow velocity is the result of the smaller cross section. a stream made up of numerous tiny, shallow channels that repeatedly split apart and recombine to create a pattern like the strands of a braid. Where the sediment load is so great that some of the sediment is deposited as moving islands.
