The seventh crisis that a person encounters throughout their social development is the conflict between generativity and stagnation.

It comes after the conflict between emotional closeness and separation. Those who successfully completed the sixth stage have a supportive community. This could apply to a partner, a friendship group,  relatives, etc.

In the seventh stage, the person looks beyond their own generation. They begin to consider the next generation. Parenthood is a significant milestone in the generativity vs. stagnation stage. As a new generation enters the identity, people in this stage begin to reflect on their lives and consider what they will leave for the next generation.
