In robert sapolsky’s research on monkeys, there was a tragedy which occurred that changed the group’s dynamics forever. What happened to the group and who was affected?

Respuesta :

In his book A Primate's Memoir, Robert Sapolsky investigated the activities and lifestyle of the Forest Troop  to study the link between stress and sickness.

In typical baboon manner, the males misbehaved, vying for or maintaining control over higher ranking males or participating in deadly conflicts with lower ranked males.

The most violent males in the Forest Troop were wiped out in a terrible twist of destiny. The males had caught bovine TB after feeding in an open rubbish pit next to a tourist resort, and the majority perished between 1983 and 1986.

Their deaths greatly altered the group's gender dynamics, more than tripling the ratio of females to males; by 1986, troop behavior had also changed significantly; males were significantly less aggressive.
