As per the Historians and available sources, the Great compromise was based upon, the compromise between larger states and the smaller states in case of representation.
It was related to representation of states in the two proposed houses of the U.S. congress, named as Senate and the House of representatives,
As, they have proposed that all states representation would be based upon their total population, but they faced criticism and opposition from states have less population as ultimately they would get less voice in congress.
To tackle the situation they formed a committee, which finally, proposed this Great compromise, where it is decided that:
- The Senate had an equal representation from all the states but the House of representation would have representatives from different states on the basis of the population they had, every state would have as 1 representative from every 40,000 citizens respectively.
In this compromise, the states with lesser population compromised in house of representatives, and those who supported the representation on the basis population compromised in the Senate.
