As people attempted to ward off the plague, the 14th century adversities had a significant impact on urban life and medical practices.

To aid in the eradication of the plague, authorities in urban areas attempted to keep cities clean and organized prostitution. Men did not wait as long to marry due to shorter life spans.

Following the Plague, peasant revolts caused social changes, and many were drawn to the higher wages in cities. Guilds brought together craftspeople, regulated business practices, and established prices.
