The 1920s presented several difficulties for women. Women were supposed to take care of the home, nurture the children, support their husbands emotionally, and contribute in a variety of other ways to American society. The 19th amendment, approved by Congress on June 4, 1919, and ratified on August 18, 1920, gave women the right to vote.
The right to vote for women in America is legally protected under the 19th amendment. American women; for the vast majority, not much changed. With the armistice, the dramatic rise in the number of women working during World War I came to an abrupt end.
