The aim is to become the commander of one's fate. Self-improvement, self-education, and self-discipline are the favoring characteristics. These are the men who have risen without any favoring cases and under odd hardships. Self-made man has discovered the most profitable uses to which energy can be utilised.
Benjamin Franklin has been represented as "undoubtedly the original self-made man." He believed in enhancing oneself which will consequetively enhance the community as a whole.
