What is NAP?
Microsoft's Network Access Protection (NAP) technology limits a computer's network access based on its condition. System administrators of a company can specify rules for system health needs using NAP. System health requirements include, for instance, whether the machine has the most recent operating system updates installed, the most recent anti-virus software signature, or whether a host-based firewall has been installed and configured. Upon establishing a network connection, computers that have a NAP client will have their condition assessed. NAP has the authority to impose network access restrictions or refuse service to computers that do not meet the specified health requirements.
