Super-enhancer-driven transcriptional programmes and promoter-proximal transcription factor-associated gene expression have an unclear relationship.
However, their different genomic occupancy raises the possibility of a method for independent and separate gene control.
In multiple myeloma, we investigated the transcriptional and functional interactions between E2F transcription factors and BET transcriptional co-activators.
Scientists discovered that multiple myeloma cells depend on the transcription factor E2F1 and its heterodimerization partner DP1.
Global chromatin analysis revealed separate regulatory axes for E2F and BETs, with BETs predominately located at enhancer-regulated tissue-specific genes and E2F primarily localised to active gene promoters of growth and/or proliferation genes.
