The carbons, which were originally part of glucose, enter the Citric acid (Krebs) cycle as Acetyl Coenzyme A.

Acetyl Coenzyme A is an intermediate product that is involved in various metabolic reactions inside an organism. It is simple also called Acetyl CoA. The main function of Acetyl CoA is to transfer the acetyl group to any compound. It is also present as an intermediate product between the Glycolysis and Krebs cycle processes.

Krebs cycle is one of the processes of aerobic respiration which is aimed in the production energy in the form of ATP, NADPH and GDP. It begins with the reaction between Acetyl CoA and oxaloacetic acid. It is a series of enzyme catalyzed reactions where several energy components are released at different reactions.
