Southern California has not experienced an earthquake of magnitude 9 or greater during recorded human history because the San Andreas fault is an active fault which is why we have many earthquake that have occured previously but, none of them have been as high as a magnitude of 9 because the movement of plates is in the distance of millimeters which shows that the earthquake chances here will not reach the magnitude of 9 and will be limited to around 8.3 as predicted by computer models.

An earthquake is a sudden movement of the Earth's tectonic plates, causing the ground to shake. This shaking can damage various structures such as buildings and even cause the ground to collapse. The study of earthquakes is called seismology.
