her core classes only to determine if she receives the HOPE scholarship. To qualify
for the HOPE scholarship Marci must have a core weighted average of a 3.0. A's are
worth 4 points, B's are worth 3 points, C's are worth 2 points, and D's are worth 1
point. Over the past 4 years Marci has made 10 A's, 4 B's and 2 C's. Calculate Marci's
GPA and see if she will qualify for the HOPE Scholarship.

Marci's GPA is 3.5 which is enough for her to qualify for the HOPE Scholarship.

What is Average?

This is a mean value which is calculated by the sum of the numbers given divided by the total number of numbers given.

We were given that she had 10 A's, 4 B's and 2 C's and A's are worth 4 points, B's are worth 3 points which means the sum will be:

  • 10A's = 10×4 =40
  • 4 B's = 4×3 =12
  • 2 C's = 2×2 = 4

The sum= 40+12+4 = 56

The total number of courses is 10+4+2 = 16

CGPA = 56/16 = 3.5

This score is above the core weighted average of a 3.0 which means she qualified for the HOPE scholarship.
