Jonathan Edwards uses God as the highest supernatural being who watches everything what everyone does. He judges all and despises unbelievers. Preaching is for unbelievers. At first, Edwards talks about his reason sermon. He then begins to speak to unbelievers about hell and how God he can choose to send these unbelievers to eternal hell if he so desires. line which demonstrates this view is “The bow of the wrath of God is bent and the arrow ready on the string and justice bends the arrow in your heart and strains bow, and that is nothing but the mere pleasure of God and the pleasure of wrath God, without any promise or obligation, who holds the arrow for a moment. Towards the end of the sermon however Edward paints God as a forgiving being should his followers seek his guidance. God is thus depicted as forgiving the souls of those who deserve mercy.
