The council, council of elders and the directory are the different forms of political governance, which were run as per the framework of the new forms of constitution.

What are the forms of constitution?

A constitution is the written or verbal laws and regulations, which determine the functioning of the society, such constitution is valid in. The different characteristics of forms of constitution are as given below,

  1. The Council of Elders – Each small village or town consisted of a council of elders, who were the residents of the village above the age of 60, and were responsible for the formation of assembly.
  2. The Council – A council is a form of local government, which takes decisions on the behalf of the society, it has established its control over.
  3. The Directory – It is a form of constitution, which was set up in France at the end of the 18th century, and included a bicameral legislature.
