So, shouldn’t the students in turn be able to grade the performance of their teachers? It would benefit the teacher’s understanding of what teaching methods work best within the classroom. The real question is whether or not students themselves are mature enough to take the grading process seriously. Students may misinterpret what truly makes a good teacher and evaluate them purely based on the easiness of a class. Sometimes students may have a favorite teacher, but they may not base that upon the actual effectiveness of that particular teacher. The most adverse effect to the student’s evaluation is whether it intimidates the teacher to lessen their authoritativeness in the classroom. Students would also have to remain anonymous to ensure the teacher cannot penalize them for a poor evaluation.
