Closing Statement:
Story: Otis felt a twinge of sadness for the poor buffalo but knew that without them, the villagers would not survive. Back at the village, Lone Horn shared some good news. “One of the buffalo trackers mentioned that a fleet of wagons was heading toward Idaho. Could this be the wagon train that you are trying to return to?” “It must be. I remember seeing Idaho on the Captain’s map,” said Otis.“If we are going to make it there before dark, we need to leave immediately,”

Lone Horn insisted. For the second time in his life, Otis was on the back of a horse, traveling with Lone Horn toward Soda Springs, a place known for its many natural springs of carbonated water and frequented by the Native Americans and passing wagon trains.

Lone Horn was the first to spot the wagon train in the distance. He rode ahead and signaled to the Captain to stop. Eventually, Otis was able to catch up and apologize to Will and the Captain for disobeying the group and making them worry. “Thank you for all of your help and for teaching me the ways of your people. I don’t know if I would have made it without you,” Otis admitted to Lone Horn.
On the Oregon Trail is about Otis's journey along the Oregon Trail.
