List the data in the ascending order:

2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4, 4, 12

The scale of the graph is 2 to 12.

Draw a number line 2 - 12.

Place the number of dots above each number.

  • Consider the range of data and divide the line into equal portions, ensuring the first and last ticks are the smallest and largest data values.  Add numbers for each tick.
  • Count the number of data values for each number on the line and draw that many dots above it (e.g. if you have one data value of 2, draw one dot above the number 2 on the number line).
  • Finally, add a title describing what the numbers on the number line represent.
