The length of each side of an equilateral triangle is increased by 5 inches, so the perimeter is now 60 inches. Write and solve an equation to find the original length of each side of the equilateral triangle.

P=3a (perimeter = a+a+a) ( “a” is the length of each side)

60 = 3a

60/3 = a

20 = a
Each side is currently 20
Then you subtract 5 to get your original length

a = 20 - 5
a = 15
The original length of each side of the equilateral triangle is 15.
