The property of water which is related to this phenomenon is that: water molecules are cohesive because they form hydrogen bonds with each other.

What is water?

Water can be defined as a liquid molecule that typically contains two (2) main chemical elements in the ratio of two (2) to one (1). Also, these two (2) chemical elements are:

  • Hydrogen
  • Oxygen

The bonding of atoms in a water molecule.

In a water molecule, two (2) atoms of hydrogen bonds with an atom of oxygen through two (2) covalent bonds and this makes it to be cohesive in nature.

In conclusion, the property of water which makes it possible for substances to dissolve quickly in it is that water molecules are cohesive because they form hydrogen bonds with each other.
