The first step is to subtract 3 from both sides (remember the Golden Rule of Algebra: Whatever we do to one side, we do to the other)

[tex]\tt{4x=10-3}[/tex]
[tex]\tt{4x=7}[/tex]
Divide both sides by 4 in order to isolate x:
[tex]\tt{x=\frac{7}{4}[/tex]
